Best Optic For Turkey Shotgun

Best Optic For Turkey Shotgun

While there are many optics out there to choose one, picking the right one for the job requires a special touch. For turkey hunting, we’re looking for an optic to aim at a semi-static, relatively small target.

This makes bead sights less than ideal for accuracy, and having to acquire a target through a scope does not seem to be great either. However, there is another option, the ever faithful red dot, and that’s what we’re going to talk about in this article.

We’ve collected our own data and the opinions of hunters who have tested these optics extensively in the field, and these are the top optics for turkey shotguns.

Editor’s Pick!

Trijicon RMR

The Trijicon RMR is an excellent, lightweight, low-profile sight which can be mounted with ease on a shotgun. This sight makes it quick to acquire your target, and as long as the dot is on the bird, you’re ready to fire.

However, the RMR does have a rather large dot (6.5) when compared to the SRO. So, if you’d prefer a smaller red dot for whatever reason, then when it comes to the Trijicon SRO Vs RMR, you may wish to go with the SRO.

This is, of course, a matter of personal preference and a matter of the distance at which you’ll be taking your shots. Longer shots may call for a smaller MOA, but again, it’s very much based on preference.

In any case, Trijicon makes very high-quality optics that not only go well with a shotgun, but can also be used with a variety of other firearms when turkey hunting season comes to a close – Making the RMR more than just a one-trick pony. However, this is a pricey sight and some people simply aren’t willing to spend that kind of money on a shotgun optic.

Burris Fast Fire

One of the most recommended red dot sights for turkey guns during our research was the Burris Fast Fire. Turkey hunters love this optic and claim that they have bagged more turkeys since adding it to their equipment setups.

This sight is a good deal more affordable than the RMR, and it is deadly accurate. These sights are also now guaranteed for life by the company, so if you do manage to drop it, it’s not an issue. Though they are made very well, so this is unlikely.

The Fast Fire also has a long battery life and automatic brightness adjustments to make your job easier in a variety of lighting conditions. However, some hunters have claimed to have some quality control issues with the Fast Fire. While the company does quickly rectify the issue, it’s still a potential annoyance you should be aware of.

Vortex Venom

Need a quality optic for turkey hunting but not looking to spend a ton of money? The Vortex Venom is a versatile and affordable option which will likely fit the bill. Like the Fast Fire, this sight is also highly recommended for turkey guns, however, it can be mounted on a variety of other firearms as well.

In addition to these benefits, many hunters also enjoy the low profile design of the Venom, which keeps it out of the way. It’s also an extremely durable sight, and Vortex also offers their excellent VIP Warranty on all optics. If anything happens to your sight, including accidental damage, they will fix it or replace it.

In short, thanks to Vortex’s fantastic customer service, great craftsmanship, and the fact that the Venom is one of the most affordable red dots around, the Venom is likely the top red dot for turkey guns.

Truglo Gobblestopper

People either love or hate the Gobblestopper, and depending on you situation and desires it could be the best or the worst sight for the job.

However, if your vision is not the best, then a tube sight like the Gobblestopper may be better than a more open sight like the Trijicon.

Besides the huge cost difference, when comparing truglo vs trijicon, the Gobblestopper also offers a sun shade, and the ability to change the optic color (red or green) to get a better contrast against the background you are hunting.

However, many hunters also reported that this can work against you as well. So, if you plan to pick up this affordable turkey gun optic, be aware that it comes with some issues depending on light quality. You may want to test it out at home at different times of day so you know how it performs before your hunting trip.

In any case, it’s dirt cheap and effective if you take the time to learn how to use it. However, it is a pretty big sight, especially when compared to the smaller open red dots we’ve featured.
